Devin's 10/28 email
hey everyone
this has been a pretty good week. we picked up two new investigators. the first one’s name is Brian we taught him a first and he seemed to like what we said. we are going to try and talk to him again this week. the second is a girl named Brittany. we tracted into her and she told us to come back so we did and we taught her the first lesson on her front porch. it was very cold but good. she told us to come back and when we did we just kind of chatted w/ here to get to know her better. it was interesting she told us that she never even opens the door to the Jehovah Witnesses but she opened it for us. 60% of the people we talk to think we are Jehovah Witnesses so that was a miracle that she opened the door and she told us about how she prayed and how it made her feel really good so that was really awesome. Elder Bennett and I got really exited and were like “that is so awesome, we are proud of you” and she thought we were sarcastic but we said it was really awesome. We are going to teach her the second lesson tomorrow so hopefully that will go well. i think she will really like it though she drinks and smokes so that might be an obstacle for us. but hopefully not.
Yesterday we did travels so I went to Hamilton w/ Elder Li our district leader and I worked with him there for the day. it was a slow day. we tried to do a bunch of drop bys to talk to potentials but no one was home and Hamilton is a crazy place. the missionaries call it Gotham City because its quite similar I guess. its kind of weird - all the neighboring cities such as Burlington send all of their homeless people and bums to Hamilton so they don’t have to deal w/ them. So yea there are a lot of interesting people there. haha. we tried to talk to Sinan again this week but he had to leave town so we talked to his wife some and she said that she would love to listen to us next time we teach sinan, so that will be great. they are a young family so hopefully eternal families will be a big seller for them.
its starting to get pretty cold. we were walking around the streets last night and i thought my face was going to freeze off but luckily it didn’t. . and yes dad i know i really need to be careful not to get frostbite. we found a pretty bigcoat in the apartment that I will use if needed and I’ll have to go get some gloves soon. Mom I don’t have a cd player and I would love some music. we have listened to our cds like 1000 times so a new one would be nice. You should burn jens efy cds and send them. that we be way awesome =D. o and I sent a cd of pictures home Monday so hopefully you will get those next week and then you could upload them to snapfish. Oh yea Monday night me and elder bennett made tacos and they were marvelous. The best thing i have ever cooked me thinks. Oh and the mission president challenged us to finish the book of mormon again by Christmas so i have been reading a lot and have been really enjoying it more then i ever have which is great. i have only fallen asleep while reading it like 2 times this week so that’s great improvement. Sorry i didn’t do a day by day thing this week. i forgot my planner. And thanks to sister Maxfield for sending me a letter.
i feel like i should end w/ a spiritual note but i cant think of anything so i just challenge everyone to really get into the book of mormon it can bring great blessings into your lives
